The history of Chess goes back almost 1500 years and is believed to have originated in Northern India in the 6th century AD. However, modern tournament play began in the second half of the 19th century. Chess clocks were first used in 1883, and the first world chess championship was held in 1886.

The game is played on a chessboard with 64 squares and it’s a two-player game. Each player has 16 pieces at the start of the game. The pieces are of six types and have different moving patterns on the board. A win is recorded when a player captures the opponent’s king piece or forces the opponent to resign. Otherwise, a draw is recorded.
